The classic cadherins in synaptic specificity

During brain development, billions of neurons organize into highly specific circuits. To form specific circuits, neurons must build the appropriate types of synapses with appropriate types of synaptic partners while avoiding incorrect partners in a dense cellular environment. Defining the cellular and molecular rules that govern specific circuit formation has significant scientific and clinical...

N- and E-cadherins in Xenopus are specifically required in the neural and non-neural ectoderm, respectively, for F-actin assembly and morphogenetic movements.

Transmembrane cadherins are calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion molecules. Recently, they have also been shown to be sites of actin assembly during adhesive contact formation. However, the roles of actin assembly on transmembrane cadherins during development are not fully understood. We show here, using the developing ectoderm of the Xenopus embryo as a model, that F-actin assembly is a pr...

Design, Development and Evaluation of an Orange Sorter Based on Machine Vision and Artificial Neural Network Techniques

ABSTRACT- The high production of orange fruit in Iran calls for quality sorting of this product as a requirement for entering global markets. This study was devoted to the development of an automatic fruit sorter based on size. The hardware consisted of two units. An image acquisition apparatus equipped with a camera, a robotic arm and controller circuits. The second unit consisted of a robotic...

Neural crest emigration from the neural tube depends on regulated cadherin expression.

During the emergence of neural crest cells from the neural tube, the expression of cadherins dynamically changes. In the chicken embryo, the early neural tube expresses two cadherins, N-cadherin and cadherin-6B (cad6B), in the dorsal-most region where neural crest cells are generated. The expression of these two cadherins is, however, downregulated in the neural crest cells migrating from the n...

Differential expression of two cadherins in Xenopus laevis.

Using a cadherin fraction from Xenopus tissue culture cells as an immunogen, two monoclonal antibodies were obtained that allowed the characterization of two distinct cadherins in the Xenopus embryo. The two cadherins differ in molecular weight, in their time of appearance during development and in their spatial pattern of expression. One of the antigens was identified as E-cadherin. It appears...
